The Association of European Police Colleges (AEPC) announces that following its statutory elections held in December 2025, Prof. Dr. Gábor Kovács, Police Major General, has been appointed as the new President of the organisation, effective from 1 January 2026.
Professor Kovács received the support of an overwhelming majority of the AEPC member institutions, reflecting the strong confidence and unity within the Association. He is a well-established figure within AEPC, having served as Vice-President for 8 years and contributed significantly to the organisation’s strategic development and international profile. His election represents both continuity and a renewed commitment to the shared values and objectives of European police education.
In addition to his leadership role within AEPC, Professor Kovács has been serving as Dean of the Law Enforcement Faculty at Ludovika University of Public Service, Budapest, Hungary, for the past five years, and has been Vice-President of the International Association of Police Academies (INTERPA) since November 2025. Through these roles, he has actively promoted international cooperation, professional exchange, and the integration of European experience into global police education frameworks.
AEPC’s mission is to support and coordinate the development of police education across Europe. Its key activities include strengthening cooperation among member institutions, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and best practices, encouraging staff and student mobility, and supporting innovation and modernisation in training systems in response to emerging challenges.
Commenting on his appointment, Professor Kovács stated:
“My aim is to further strengthen AEPC as a dynamic, open and supportive professional community — one that creates real value, new opportunities and meaningful cooperation for all its members.”
AEPC looks forward to continuing its work under the leadership of Professor Kovács and to further enhancing collaboration among European and international police education institutions.
