Belgrade, 25 September 2025
At the conclusion of two inspiring days of dialogue and exchange during the AEPC Annual Conference in Belgrade, the Governing Board convened for its annual meeting. Building on the strong messages that emerged throughout the conference — trust, leadership, cooperation and shared purpose — the AEPC community took an important step in shaping its future leadership.
The Governing Board elected Johan van Lare as Vice President of the Association of European Police Colleges (AEPC).
Johan van Lare has been an active and committed member of AEPC for more than thirteen years, serving both on the Executive Committee and the Governing Board. His election reflects the high esteem of his international colleagues and recognises his longstanding contribution to international police education and research.
“It is a great honour to be elected by my international colleagues,” van Lare said. “After thirteen years of active involvement in AEPC’s leadership structures, this feels like a natural next step. I am convinced that this new role can create real added value for the Dutch Police Academy in the fields of international education and research.”
At the same time, AEPC expressed its sincere gratitude to Police Major General Prof. Gábor Kovács, who concluded eight years of dedicated service as Vice President. His leadership, commitment and personal engagement have left a lasting mark on the Association and have significantly contributed to strengthening the AEPC community across Europe.
The AEPC warmly congratulates Johan van Lare on his election and sincerely thanks Gábor Kovács for his outstanding contribution. Together, these transitions reflect the strength, continuity and shared vision that characterise the AEPC network.
